Governor Fintiri Reopens Skill Acquisition Centres

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Thursday has reopened the eight moribund technical skills acquisition centres built by the past administration of former governor Murtala Nyako.

Fintiri, who performed the ceremony in Girei Local Government Area, said the decision to put the centres into use was informed by the commitment of his administration to job creation.

He said the centres were expected to commence training with 2,700 unemployed youths in skills which include building and construction, carpentry and joinery, welding, tiles making, automobile mechanic, phone repair and furniture making.

Fintiri stated that the newly created state Poverty and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA) had earlier trained no fewer than 27,000 on various skills across the 21 LGAs in the state.

The governor added that since the inception of his administration in 2019 another 20,000 youths had been trained on various skills under the state social intervention programmes.

He explained that the Centres were expected to train 20,000 youths in vocational skills annually, adding that the pioneer trainees of the centres should be recalled to complete their training.

“We are injecting life into these moribund and neglected skills acquisition centres.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Entrepreneurs and your development Hon. James iliya and Hajiya Aishatu Bello, the head of PAWECA, lauded the zeal and commitment of the governor to establish the agency which had impacted positively on the lives of thousands of youths in the area.

She advised interested youths to use the opportunity to join the skills acquisition training to enable them to achieve self-sustainability and financial independence.

The Chairman of Girei Local Government, Mr Juda Amisah, commended the state government for reopening the Centres after their abrupt closure by the previous administration.

He said the skills acquisition training would generate employment, promote security and increase productivity, especially among the teaming unemployed youths.

Among the dignitaries attends the program are Chief of staff government house professor Maxwell Gidado, Commissioners, and Advisers among top government functionaries.

Highlights of the events were a traditional dance.
